Choose My Vacation Lenses!

Time for a quick poll of my five or six readers!

I’m headed to Wisconsin for a weekend. I want to travel light, so I’ll carry two lenses at most.  Two years ago I went to Chicago with one lens: the 50mm f/1.8, and I made it work. Following are my lens and teleconverter choices. Which would YOU take for a weekend in Wisconsin? And before you ask, “What are you going to shoot,” allow me to retort: “I don’t know.”

35 mm f/2.0

50mm f/1.8

85mm f/1.4

105mm f/2.8 Micro (Macro)

11-16 f/2.8

17-55 f/2.8

70-200 f/2.8

TC17 1.7x teleconverter

I’m inclined to take the 17-55 and the 105 Micro, which would offer some interesting versatility.  But again, the question is, “What would YOU take?” Thanks, Z

17-55 and 108 sound like a fun to me. However I’ve always been partial to the 50 myself…

  3. 17-55 and70-200. I recently went to WA and took everything, but all I really needed was the 17-25 and the 100-400.

  4. My 24-105 F4.0 (Canon) fits my general needs, I also would take my 300 F4.0 Plus my set of tubes. Tubes are a great way to convert a lens into a macro. The 300 with 36mm of tubes, WOW.

17-55 and maybe an extender I’d sure like to have the 70-200 if I did not
have an extender for the 17-55. Have fun Dean 🙂

  6. Whoops! I meant my 17-40, not 17-25! Another senior moment!

I would go with the 17-55 and the 70-200. Cover almost all your bases. If I had to choose between those two, I’d go with the 17-55. You can’t crop outwards.
