Fun at the Ag Museum

“The camera is an instrument that teaches people how to see without a camera.” – Dorothea Lange

My wife organizes field trips for her school, and I get the pleasure of helping with reconnaissance. I guarantee you there is no elementary school student more excited than I am to visit a fish hatchery or firehouse. Today we saw the Ventura County Agricultural Museum in Santa Paula. As has been my habit of late, I carried one camera and one lens: the D7000 and 50mm f/1.8. At first I wished I had brought a wide angle lens to capture the giant farm machines from unusual angles, but after a little while I settled down and started seeing in 50mm.  Instead of documenting the museum, I made images of shapes and colors that appealed to me. It’s taken forty years, but I’m definitely starting to take the lead in my relationship with photography.
